Supporting Small Farmers
Family farms are the backbone of TX-17, but they face mounting pressures from corporate consolidation and market challenges. J. Gordon Mitchell will:
- Champion fair prices and direct-to-consumer sales through farmers’ markets and local food hubs, helping farmers keep more of their earnings.
- Expand support for minority and young farmers by providing grants, technical assistance, and improved access to land.
- Advocate for disaster relief programs that deliver timely assistance to small producers impacted by droughts, floods, or storms.
