Support For Veterans And Their Families

Our veterans and their families have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation. As a retired veteran and former drill sergeant in the United States Air Force, J. Gordon Mitchell served served alongside our military for over twenty years. J. Gordon has seen firsthand the courage, resilience, and dedication of service members — and the challenges they and their loved ones face when returning home. We owe them more than gratitude; we owe them action and unwavering support.

J. Gordon Mitchell is committed to ensuring that every veteran and military family receives the benefits, care, and respect they have earned. Too often, red tape, underfunded programs, and bureaucratic delays stand between veterans and the resources they desperately need. That is unacceptable.

J. Gordon Mitchell’s plan to support veterans and their families includes:

  • Ensuring timely and affordable access to high-quality healthcare, including expanding VA facilities, increasing provider options in underserved areas, and eliminating waitlists for critical treatments.
  • Prioritizing comprehensive mental health care, with expanded access to counseling, peer support, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention programs tailored to the unique needs of veterans and their families.
  • Investing in programs that combat veteran homelessness, including increased funding for housing vouchers, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing solutions.
  • Streamlining the VA claims and benefits process by modernizing systems, reducing paperwork, and holding agencies accountable for prompt, accurate service — so no veteran is left waiting months or years for the benefits they’ve earned.
  • Expanding job training, education, and career transition support, helping veterans leverage their skills and experience into good-paying civilian jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities.
  • Supporting military families with expanded access to childcare, spousal employment programs, and family counseling resources, recognizing the sacrifices made by those who serve alongside our service members.
  • Protecting and strengthening the GI Bill and other educational benefits, ensuring veterans and their families can pursue higher education without financial barriers.
  • Fighting for full funding and oversight of VA services, so that promises made to veterans are kept, and their voices are always heard at the highest levels of government.

With J. Gordon Mitchell’s leadership, TX-17 will have an advocate who understands the unique experiences and needs of our veterans. He will never let bureaucratic delays or political games leave them behind. Our commitment must be as steadfast as their service — because our veterans deserve nothing less than our very best.
